The specialists of VMPAUTO gave cellular canalled chrome coatings their attention (Fig.1). The given type of material is used in hopped-up engines operating at high pressure (up to 15 MPa) and temperature (as high as 250 0C). To secure necessary reliability the rings are electroplated with porous chrome. Dense chrome coating has a high wear resistance, but it is wetted by oil badly. Under such conditions the oil is simply difficult to keep on the ring surface. The solution to the problem was found in that the chrome coating had been made porous. The porous coating holds the oil as a sponge and the material like that takes up the load, which is prohibitive for the dense coatings, especially in the running-in period. So, the idea appeared to develop the lubricating compound (LC) that is the metal-plating additive forming the porous structure coating. The Russian 3rd generation metal-plating additives forming the dense structure coating have been showing the excellent performance for 10 years. More than 10 million car-owners were able to equalize the compression over cylinders and delay the overhaul.

The metal-plating additives are reconditioning ones in oil. They contain the ultrasmall metal particles, which are the size of 0.1:1 mm. Such a minute particles are superactive. Under the action of pressure and temperature the particles interact with the metal surface. There forms the servo-vitae-film continuously in wear.
The term "servo-vitae" has its origin in Latin words meaning "to save life". The servo-vitae-film is protective one, and it self-recovers Independently of mechanism of action the recovering process manifest itself by change in wear rate, contact temperature and power loss by friction. The given parameters are used to compare the properties of different LC. It is important that RESURS showed a good performance in tribopairs of different types: chrome-cast iron (cylinder-piston unit), steel-steel (cam-tappet), bronze-cast iron (crank mechanism). As a result of application of the oil with RESURS, the wear rate of chrome-plated decreased to one-fourth and of the cast iron cylinder liner, to one-second. There essentially, by a half, decreased the power loss by friction and lacquer formation. By contrast to the 3rd generation metal-plating additives, which form the dense structure coating, the new RESURS is energy-saving. It is produced in two modifications optimized as applied to the definite type of oil. The blue modification is tuned to mineral and semi-synthetic oil, the violet, to synthetic one.
